Hello and welcome to the Smart Affiliate Marketing Podcast.
In this episode, we’re going to look at how to master email marketing for affiliate success.
Because email marketing is widely considered to have one of the highest returns of any marketing channel email list building is therefore a crucial strategy for affiliate marketers to achieve long term success.
In this episode, you’ll discover how to build a list and how to turn that list into affiliate commissions.
I’m also going to hook you up with a free account, which will let you build opt in pages, sales funnels and an email list at no cost.
Let’s get into the importance of email list building.
Most methods of getting traffic to your offers and so on involve either spending time or money on adverts or SEO, for example.
That traffic either comes to your website or sees your offer, and then it either buys or leaves, and that traffic is then gone.
However, if you can capture that traffic onto an email list, you can market to that traffic indefinitely without any additional advertising costs. And in the process of having them on your email list, you’re going to be building the no like and trust factors, which will automatically lead to increased sales, if you do this correctly.
An email list can bring long term benefits such as repeat business, great relationships and higher conversion rates, which all leads to extra money in your pocket.
I know some marketers who rely solely on email lists. They don’t do any paid advertising anymore. They’ve built their list to a big enough size that they can comfortably live on the income they make from their list.
So let’s look at how you’re going to build an email list. To begin, you’re going to need a lead magnet. Now, this doesn’t have to be something you’ve created yourself, and creating one of these may sound daunting, but actually it’s not – So don’t let that put you off!
Also, I’m going to be giving you a link to a free account where you can build an opt in page sales funnel and email list totally free of charge. Granted, when that gets up to a certain size, you would need to move to a paid account. But by then you should be making money anyway, so that’s not an issue. But at least it will let you get started for free.
If you’re in a rush, you can go to www.SmartAffiliatePodcast.com/freeFunnelBuilder , That’s www.SmartAffiliatePodcast.com/freeFunnelBuilder – Obviously, the free is spelt F R double E, and you can get access to this platform free of charge.
So, basically, lead magnets are something of value that you can give to your audience for free in exchange for their email address. So it has to be something that is of value to them. It has to address their pain points or desires.
It should contain some valuable content, checklists or video courses, and your lead magnet should be highly relevant to your niche.
Now, if you want to see some examples if you go to my website, www.SmartAffiliatePodcast.com/free-learning/ , that will take you to a page on my site where you will see nine different lead magnets. And also, if you scroll down, there is access to the all in one marketing platform, which you’re having free access to. So everything you need to do with this episode is on that page. That’s www.SmartAffiliatePodcast.com/free-learning/ or just go to the SmartAffiliatePodcast.com website, and under resources and tools on the menu, you will see a link to free learning materials. Just click on that. That will take you to the page.
As I say, there are nine lead magnets ranging from books, checklists, a free A I course, some plans and guides. Now, each one of those, all I’m asking in return for any of those is an email address. So if there’s any there that you like, do feel free to grab one of those – you can unsubscribe to the list at any time.
And also access to the free platform is there too. So one last time. That’s www.SmartAffiliatePodcast.com/free-learning/ . So you can take a look at those and then perhaps get your own ideas for valuable lead magnets relevant to your niche.
Now, if you’re on Facebook, you may often be seeing adverts from other people within your niche offering their lead magnets. So perhaps you could use those for ideas as well. I’m in the affiliate marketing niche, but I don’t know what niche you’re in. So you need something relevant to your niche.
Once you’ve decided what your lead magnet is going to be, you’ll need to create an opt in page for it. Now, if you’re worried about what to write on the opt in page, well, you can use AI to help you. I generally use the free version of Google Gemini and give it a prompt, such as “you are an expert copywriter. I have a lead magnet on (whatever your subject is) and I want to encourage people to opt in with their email address”. Also, tell AI what some of the benefits are of your lead magnet and then AI will give you some great copy to put on your opt in page.
You can build that page with the free account that I’ve given you. The link to which just to remind you is www.SmartAffiliatePodcast.com/freeFunnelBuilder . And there’s tutorials already on that platform, so I don’t need to give you a detailed description of how to create the opt in Pages. It can take a bit of learning, but persevere and you should have your opt in page up and running and within system E.
It will let you know how to hook that opt in page up to an email list, which you can be building totally free of charge on that platform.
Once your opt in page is complete and hooked up with an email list, then you need to promote your lead magnet. You can use social media. Facebook, You can collaborate perhaps with other marketers, whatever channels you’re currently advertising on or producing content on, you can use those to promote your lead magnet and build your list.
Now it’s best to have a series of auto responders or automatic emails that will go out to people when they subscribe to your list, so the first email would obviously send them a link or the actual lead magnet that they’ve opted in for. That would always be the first email, and you also want to be building the “know, like and trust factors” and not bombarding your audience just with offers of products that you’re going to make a commission on – because if you do this too much, you will turn your audience off and they will unsubscribe.
So to build the know, like and trust factor and build relationships with your subscribers is essential or you’re going to have a big attrition rate, which is no good for you.
So, as I say, the first email will be the lead magnet or a link to it. Following on from that, you need to provide tips and create valuable and engaging content for your audience. And some examples of this would be sharing your personal stories and experiences to do with your niche giving helpful advice and tips.
You can curate content from other sources and basically offer good free advice. Be as helpful as you can to your audience, and they’ll appreciate that and look forward to your emails. Now, of course, you’re going to want to promote them in order to make money at some times. But remember the 80/20 rule. 80% of your email should be valuable content, and 20% can be promotional, So basically one in five emails can be promotional.
But make sure most of your emails are valuable content that your audience is going to love. Think about any email list you’re on and think about the ones who give you good content. Well, the ones who give you good content, you’re going to be opening their emails and the ones who just promote all the time… Well, if you’re anything like me, you just stop opening the emails and eventually unsubscribe because you’re getting no value from these people. So don’t be like them.
Four Emails of good, valuable content, then one promotional email. Now, obviously, if you have a promotion running, you wouldn’t send just one email. You can send a series of emails for a particular promotion. But don’t continually bombard your list with promotions because that’s the biggest turn off, and that will lead to a high attrition rate, and it will reduce your list, which is not your goal.
In terms of how often should you send emails, personally, I’ve had the best results from sending them 2 to 3 times a week. I think daily is just a little bit too much, and weekly isn’t enough. So 2 to 3 times a week is generally my rule of thumb.
As you go through this process, you could decide that from your opt in page, once they’ve opted in, you could send them to an Upsell, perhaps a low ticket item, say, $7 or 10 dollars, or similar, and that way you can be monetizing your email list right from the outset.
They opt in for the free product, and then you offer a very high value product for a very low cost. And that way you can be recouping some of your marketing costs if you have any right from the get go. And also this allows you to build a buyer list where you know these people are actual buyers, and people who buy once are often more likely to buy in the future.
All right, so to summarise, basically, you need an opt in page and an email auto responder, which you can get at HTTP S colon forward slash forward slash https://www.SmartAffiliatePodcast.com/freeFunnelBuilder , build your opt in page, link it up to an email list and start building.
Create some auto responders with some great content for your audience. And remember, one in five emails can be promotional. You’ve probably heard the statement before “The money is in the list”. Well, the money is actually in the relationship with your list.
So build a list, build relationships and then build your affiliate commissions. There are a lot of tools and resources for affiliates over at my site, www.SmartAffiliatePodcast.com , so head over there and feel free to help yourself to whatever you need. I’m probably going to be taking a short break now until after the holidays. But if anything of high importance does crop up, I will release a podcast to cover that. Otherwise, enjoy the holidays and I’ll see you soon.
